Hydrodynamic Ram on a 2 Liter Bottle

Rhamm Technologies has done extensive work with hydrodynamic ram. This example is perhaps the simplest way to demonstrate this phenomena, as well as our modeling capabilities.

A 2 liter bottle was filled with water and shot with a .30 caliber bullet. The event was captured with high speed video. In the video you will notice that the bottom end of the bottle suffers the majority of the damage from the pressure wave travelling through the water, not the bullet. This is called hydrodynamic ram. RHAMM Technologies has been tasked to model the hyrdodynamic ram in airframe wings and other structures, and is considered a leading expert in this field of study.
